Meet Centennial Middle School band director and music instructor Lane Wilkinson

Meet Centennial Middle School band director and music instructor Lane Wilkinson!

• What instruments do you play and how long have you played them? My primary instrument is saxophone, and I started on tenor saxophone in 6th grade at Little Cedars Elementary

and have been playing for the last 14 years! In college, I learned all the other instruments and have been playing those for the last three to four years.

• What made you want to be a Snohomish School District band director and music instructor? My passion for music started young when my sister joined band playing trumpet, and

since then I knew I was going to play an instrument. With such great mentors such as Mike Mines (Valley View Middle School) and Tadd Morris (Glacier Peak High School), it only

seemed logical for me to end up back in the same community that sparked my passion! Growing up in this community, I found a love for the area and community and am thrilled to

give back to the community that has given me so much!

• What are you most excited about for this school year? I am most excited about being back in the music world and being able to work with students to grow them into amazing

musicians and leaders. I am also very excited to work with my past band directors but as colleagues now!

• What would you say to someone considering (or maybe someone who hasn’t even ever considered) playing an instrument or participating in a school music or band program? The

biggest thing I would say is what is holding you back from starting? Music is for everyone and all skill levels! It is never to late to start. Music isn’t about being perfect, but about the

growth and knowledge that is learned through practice! The skills learned from participating in a band or music class affects all areas of life and helps you truly grow as a person.

Music has changed my life and it will change everyone else’s!

• Who is your favorite musical artist or what is your favorite composition? I have lots of different favorite artists and it depends on the genre! For classical music, I love David

Maslanka, Debussy, and Julie Giroux, but I also love modern jazz funk artists such as Snarky Puppy!
